Safari & Outdoor

When going on safari remember this: It is not a zoo. Dont expect to see animals everywhere and dont expect to get up close every time you see animals. Remember in Africa animals are wild and try to avoid human contact. When that is said a great safari is life changing. And if you are lucky you will see The Big Five and get up close to some of them. To get most out of your safari I recommend to book a walking safari because the feeling of being on the same level as the animals are the best feeling and a bit terrifying as well. Try a night safari this is where you might be lucky to see the predators hunt and feed and animals are more active and noisy. Remember it is your safari take control and let your hunter know your request. Bad hunters will take you the same places every day and might waste your time. The Big Five is the elefant, the leopard, the buffalo, the rhino and the lion. Game is a old safari or hunter word that means the animals or wildlife.

The Serengeti

Safari in Tanzania should include safari in The Ngorongoro crater and The Serengeti. First one is a huge extinct volcanic crater in the Great Rift Valley full of wildlife. Second one is probably known from TV and is the best safari and game reserve in the world. Here you will witness how the everyday wild life and kill is played out.

Kruger National Park in South Africa can be a great alternative to Serengeti. The landscape is very green and lush especially around summer. There is a chance to see The Big Five and the game reserve has a lot of good accommodation ranging from backpacker budget to high end market. Bring mosquito repellant and malaria pills.

The Okavango Delta

Botswana is often overlooked and underestimated compared to South Africa, Kenya and Tanzania when it comes to safari but it should not be like that. The Okavango Delta is a pearl with virgin swamps and wildlife in abundance. No other place can you travel for days without bumping into other tourists on the hunt for game. The Okavango Delta is more pristine and ecological then any other place in the world. Only down side is the trip to get to The Delta bad roads and time waste changing from bus to motorboat to finally canoe – now your safari can begin! But its worth the hustle 10 times. You will be rewarded with game in their natural habitat like nowhere else.

Safari in Etosha is always very graphic

Namibia has so much to offer but I will try to keep it short so I will not run out of ink. Ship wreck coast, Etosha NP and Kalahari Desert just to name a few. With one of the most kodak friendly landscapes you will go crazy with your camera. For your safari in Etosha NP simply find a water hole and wait. Soon you will sit in awe watching lions, giraffes, zebras and elefants drinking from the same water hole and fighting to have the best shade. Venture to the desert and climb Dune 45 from here you will watch how sand dunes are made by the wind and how they look like waves like a endless yellow sea.

Victoria Falls National Park is more than a water fall. And what so great about this area is that you dont know where it starts and stops. Animals are everywhere so watch out.

Swaziland

Safari in Swaziland

The Kingdom of Swaziland is an independent country inside South Africa and offers excellent safari and less tourists. The game reserve named Mlilwane Wildlife Sanctuary  is a fantastic alternative to the reserves in South Africa. You can either go on a horseback safari or hike your way through the forest landscapes as there are no predators. I was camping inside the wildlife sanctuary in the Rest Camp Huts in the eucalyptus forest overlooking the Mhlambanyatsi Valley. From Mlilwane Wildlife Sanctuarys restaurant you can get very close to the hippos in the river only a short fence separate you from the huge animal.

For something out of this world visit Salar De Uyuni. Defy the long way and bad transportation your visit to this moon landscape can not be compared with anything else on this planet. Go for four full days and you will be rewarded with some of the most incredible mountain landscapes, volcanos, hot springs, lakes and deserts.

Canaima NP

Canaima National Park has more to offer besides the famous Angel Falls. Around the Canaima you will find the eye catching tepuis which is the name of the very recognizeable flat mountains, different legoonas and many beautiful waterfalls of which you can walk behind or shower beneath. Also the boat ride up river to the Angel Falls is an experience on its own, as you move through some of the most virgin rainforest in the world. The day you reach Angel Falls is a day you will never forget.

The Amazonas is an absolutely must see experience when visiting South America. You can visit The Amazonas from many different countries but is probably easiest to enter from Brazil or Venezuela.
