Volcano hiking in Nicaragua

The Volcano called Madera which makes up half of the island called Ometepe in Nicaragua is a bitch to climb. It took me 4 hours to get up and the same down and I did it with a guide which is the only way to do it now. In the past people got stranded at the top and never came back down. The best thing about climbing it is that on the way up you can hear hauling monkeys – now I know why they are called hauling monkeys…You start out in sun and 35 degrees at the foot of the volcano and then as you move up it gets colder and misty and at the top you will most likely have rain and clouds and temperature has dropped down to 15 degrees. On the way down I got covered in mud as I was falling on my ass about 15 times and sliding down a couple of meters before getting on my feet again. I remember when I got back to my guest house facing the lake I walked into the water with my close on. Got a shower and did the laundry at the same time;-)
